A typographic demonstration of the evolutionary idea. The shape of each letter in the word "evolution" was blindly copied dozens of times, and their changes were observed and recorded. In a few generations, minor differences in strokes turned into exaggerated features of their own, morphing the letter out of recognition. Yet despite the wild swings in form, the passage from one shape to another remains perfectly visible. Also, notice how the two o's end up being completely different forms, depicting that in processes like these, contingency plays a bigger role than normally assumed. Imagine that this process was done for organic molecules instead of letters, and repeated non-stop for 3.5 billion (or, considering large multicellular animals, +-700 million) years. Then imagine 99 percent of the resulting forms deleted. The results WOULD look like an "intelligent designer"s work, if you were lazy and dumb enough.
