Sufficiently advanced ignorance can be indistinguishable from magic.

What is the best known cultural export of Turkey? Carpets? Sufî Music? The intricate calligraphy? I beg to differ. There's this one movie...so mind bendingly hilarious in its context, execution and unintentional humor, that it tells more about the Turkish psyche than any work of art ever can.

Behold Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam, the "Man Who Saves the World", or Turkish Star Wars as it is known in the west. This is a movie about a man who travels to the furthest stars in order to rescue the galaxy. This is a movie about toilet-paper mummies that explode when judo-chopped. It is the worst movie you can ever see. So bad that it's not only good, but the best.

Since my adolescence, I (like many others) have been entertained and inspired by the parallelly-evolved electroclash kitsch of this hidden gem. While it is available for view in other countries, no prior effort has managed to truly translate its wackiness into a narrative western viewers can appreciate.

So I decided to pay my debts to this movie by opening it up to the world. Here you can not only find a detailed plot summary with pictures, but information about the circumstances it was made under. Finally, there are six works of digital tribute art for fellow fans to display proudly on their desktops.
