How bad can a film get before it gets good? Shot over twelve years ago, the Space Terror 'duology' is my long-overdue answer. These films have their roots in my earliest 'movies' with my father's discarded Hi-8 video camera. Without regard for plot or consequence, me and my brother clocked over ten hours of 'space adventures' between 1995 and 1996. Only later did I discover the hidden wonder of these primitive attempts. Made by earlier versions of ourselves who knew nothing of their genitals or the urges they brought, the space adventures turned out to be hilarious, albeit unintentional sexual comedy. Subconsciously, they also hinted at the adolescence to come with a staggering load of accidental symbolism. The two Space Terror movies chronicle Spaceman Kaan's escape from unseen 'organic creatures' as he confronts a host of effete android clones and space pimps. Re-mastered without damaging the bewildering irony of the originals, they offer a glimpse of nothing less then the coming of age -IN OUTER SPACE!- |
