Snaiad is not the only "world design" exercise out there. Here are some other worlds by different artists, plus some sites that might shed more light on the science behind Snaiad.

Wayne Barlowe
Like it or not, we are all pupils of Wayne Douglas Barlowe, the great mind behind the generation-influencing Expedition.

Furaha
For a number of years, Gert van Dijk has quietly built up this little-known world inhabited by peculiar hexapod land animals. Top stuff.

SPEC - The Speculative Dinosaur Project
What if... dinosaurs had survived the K-T extinction? A huge collaboration between different artists and scientists, SPEC is one of the most detailed and "accurate" alien worlds out there.

Sagan 4
Sagan 4 is a wonderful experiment, not because it has the best art or the soundest biology, but because it is an actual working project where a team of speculative zoologists has derived an entire biosphere from a single hypothetical cell. You should check it out, or better still, join Sagan 4 yourself.

Epona
Long touted as the most scientifically accurate and comprehensive world design exercise ever, this project's website is frustratingly vague and lacking in content. I hope someone resurrects Epona soon.

Tetrapod Zoology

Science blogger Darren Naish does for real-world animals what I've been trying to do with Snaiadi wildlife here on this site.

Deviantart
Deviantart's vast depths also house a vibrant community of speculative evolution enthusiasts and alien artists. Just search for the relevant keywords.
